A Few Helpful Puppy Facts !

--A puppy is born with their eyes closed – they do not open until about 3 weeks.

--A puppy does not begin trying to walk until as early as 2 weeks and as late as 5 weeks old – They do not automatically know how to walk, they stumble and fall down just like toddlers do.
--Out of the 5 senses: touch, taste, smell, hearing and seeing, a puppy first experiences touch.

--Like human babies, Chihuauas are born with a soft spot in their skull called the molera, which closes up as they grow.
--Dogs should not eat cat food; it is very unhealthy for them.

--Raw carrots make a great, healthy, wholesome snack for your puppy or dog.

More facts will be posted in the future. --Megan

Foods to Give and Not to Give to Your Puppies and Dogs!

Please please please DO NOT  feed your puppies or dogs your leftover food!! Not only does it teach them to beg, it also affects their health. Especially NOT CHOCOLATE!! Chocolate can KILL your dog! Here are a few other very harmful foods NOT to feed your puppy or dog. Bacon has grease and if you feed your dog or puppy bacon, the grease will hurt their throat and others insides. Large amounts of avacodo, or even a little amount, are very toxic to dogs.  Alchohol is VERY bad for your dog or puppy! NEVER let it drink alchohol! Just a little can cause vomiting, diarrhea, central nervous system depression, problems with coordination, difficulty breathing, coma, even death. Onions and garlic can destryoy your dog or puppies blood cells, leading to anemia. Symptoms of anemia include weakness, vomiting, little interest in food, dullness, and breathlessness. Coffee, tea and other caffeine. Symptoms of caffeine poisoning include restlessness, rapid breathing, heart palpitations, muscle tremors, fits, and bleeding. Grapes/Raisins can cause kidney failure.Repeated vomiting is an early sign. Within a day, the dog will become lethargic and depressed.  Even though milk is okay for kittens, that doesn't make it okay for dogs! Milk and milk-based products can cause diarrhea and other digestive upset as well as set up food allergies.Macadamia nuts are also bad for your dog or puppy.Symptoms of poisoning include muscle tremors, weakness or paralysis of the hindquarters, vomiting, elevated body temperature, and rapid heart rate. Eating chocolate with the nuts will make symptoms worse, possibly leading to death. Candy, Gum, toothpaste and baked goods aren't good for your dog or puppy at all. Initial symptoms include vomiting, lethargy, and loss of coordination. Eventually, the dog may have seizures. Liver failure can occur within just a few days.Fat trimmed from meat, both cooked and uncooked, can cause pancreatitis in dogs. Salty foods, peaches, plums, sugary foods and drinks and yeast dough are also foods that are toxic to Dogs and Puppies. Here are some safe foods for your dog, Lean Meats, Fresh Fruit\, Fresh Vegatables, cooked White Rice and Pasta.
You can ensure your dog has a healthy, well-balanced diet by asking your vet to recommend a quality dog food. A well-designed dog food gives your pet all the nutrients it needs for an active and healthy life. But that doesn't mean you can't sometimes give your dog human food as a special treat -- as long as portions are limited, and the foods are cooked, pure, and not fatty or heavily seasoned.. But if you're looking to human food as a meal replacement, talk to your vet about amounts and frequency.
